Bogey & Bunker

Our City of Oaks boasts with three well established and prominent Golf Courses.

The origin of golf was first recorded by the Dutch in February 1297, however this recorded fact is of doubtful authenticity, despite being widely circulated as being true.  Those of us who are familiar with golf would be surprised to learn that the eighteenth-hole course was actually started in Scotland in the 1400’s.

Golf is a highly esteemed game and draws both men, women and children.  It is a game which requires even keeled emotions, mental and physical stamina.

Stellenbosch Golf Course is the fourth oldest Golf Club in South Africa.  In 2004 it celebrated its centenary.   Stellenbosch Golf Course has hosted significant golf tournaments, namely the 1999 South African Open. The golf course is framed by mountain ranges, large oak trees and even vineyards.  What bliss for any golfer walking to the next hole.

Devonvale Golf Course is situated on the Devonvale Wine Estate.   This course needs no introduction and will challenge any golfers’ skills.  The course was designed by Ken Elkin, who is a legend in his own right at designing golf courses.  Devonvale has in the past hosted Ernie Else Foundation, SA Ladies Open, Sunshine Tours and many more such tournaments.  The course is located on the north facing slopes of the Devon Valley and is filled with birdlife and springboks.   It is a golf course filled with an absolute sense of serenity.

Erinvale Golf Course was designed by the world-renowned Gary Player, a man who needs no introduction.  Erinvale Golf Course, like Stellenbosch and Devonvale Golf Courses has also had its share of hosting tournaments, namely the World Cup Golf in 1996. Their facilities are modern and they pride themselves in going the extra mile for their golfers.

If you are an avid golfer, you won’t be disappointed with what Stellenbosch and its surrounds have to offer.
