On Friday, 22 July 2016 the team of The Devon Valley Hotel spent their 67 minutes with the children on Graceland Pre-School in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch.
Graceland Pre-School is one of The Devon Valley Hotel’s chosen beneficiaries of The Giving Room. The Giving Room is an initiative of Preferred Hotel Group’s GIFTTS (Great Initiatives for Today’s [Tomorrow’s] Society) programme. For every night occupied in the designated Giving Room, Room 49, 10% of the room’s revenue will be donated to two charities – Graceland Pre-Primary School and the Animal Welfare Society of Stellenbosch. This initiative is a great way to make a guests’s stay not only memorable but also beneficial to the immediate community.
Thembalitsha Foundation, in consultation with the local community, established Graceland with the aim to enable children to reach their full potential. At the moment four teachers and helpers from the community take care of 57 children between the ages of two and five years.
The team at The Devon Valley Hotel spent their 67 minutes entertaining the children of Graceland Pre-School and invited a very special friend, Professor Not-So-Bright. He entertained the children with his favourite pets including his best sock friend, ‘Get’. Afterwards each child received their very own gift pack complete with a pair of gumboots for the winter, a toy and some sweets.
The Devon Valley Hotel together with neighbouring vintners support this initiative and are honoured to be involved with such a committed team of care-givers.
